Allen has a two month old baby…
The baby momma died… and he needs help. Her family has shunned Allen and the baby and is of no help. They were a mix race couple. Yes it is sad that today families are still shackled by the race thing... There are no shelters for a man with a baby. No place to go. He spent his last few hundred dollars on a room = and is now behind on his rent… We met Allen at the People Loving Nashville monday feeding. He paid for a buss ticket to travel downtown to get food and had a buss pass to get back to his place. Then… that was it - no more money. But and amazing thing happened. When the word got out about his story - we rallied around and were able to get him some diapers - baby food - wipes etc and some food for a few days. A group of volunteers circled Allen and his child and prayed over him asking God for help. So we are reaching out to our supporters to help us help this new father. With in hours we found him a cottage to live in rent free until he gets his feet on the ground. But we still need food - clothing - diapers size 1 - wipes - baby food and anything that a parent needs for a new born. Please contact THE Project Nashville - if you can help - or donate at www.theprojectnashville.com so we can get the things needed. This is what it is all about!!!

It had rained all day Monday… With short periods of sun… But over all a wet and cool start of the week. We headed down to the People Loving Nashville weekly meal in downtown to help meet and greet the masses of homeless people that that assemble to be fed - clothed and hugged by the awesome volunteers. Before the food arrived I started talking to Burr - a man who just got to town the day before. He had been robbed and had noting but a small sack with some items given to him by the mission. His ID - clothes back pack all gone. Burr is a humble man - wanting to work - willing to do what ever it takes - but tonight he was lost. We talked for a long time - I connected him with people that could help with getting his ID's - along with housing. He could go back to the mission for the night- but didn't like their rules… as many don't. So he was going to find a place on the streets… for the night. For sure a wet and cool night to to be on the streets. I remembered that I had a Back Pack Bed in the trunk of my car and asked him to follow me. I showed him this amazing piece of survival equipment developed especially for homeless people. Its a back pack -waterproof sleeping bag - pup-tent - and lean 2 all in one. It opens in 5 seconds and can simply be used as a sleeping bag. or one can put it between two trees and fasten the attached ropes on each end to make a pup tent - it has a locked secret compartment for valuables and has room for other items to be stored in it when rolled back up into a backpack. Burr teared up and hugged me and it made everything we do here at The Project Nashville - worth it. Thank you for making it possible to give to Burr. It has taken us a while but we are trying to help make it easier to volunteer and become involved with TPN. First - we are up-dating the process of communicating with our volunteer base and are working on streamlining the dissemination of information about - Needs - volunteer opportunities and events. We hope to have this in place in the next 30 days. If you have not already - sign up today. We need your prayers - support and rolled up sleeves. (Go to our Volunteer page on our web page and see what volunteers at TPN are asked to do.) Second - let me thank all of you for supporting our efforts with the homeless, it is amazing the support we have had across the U.S. We value your prayers, donations and help! It is because of you that we are able to feed, clothe, spend time with and help the daily needs of some of the forgotten in our society. We have taken to Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner many of our homeless friends - trying to give them a small taste of "Normal". We have advocated for many who need housing, and have help a number get into detox and rehab. With that - we have a new "Donate" button that allows people to donate to TPN. (We are a 501c3 not for profit organization ) and appreciate your help. Out of the dirt - mud - weather…and with his beautiful daughters.
That is where Richard "Papa Smirf" Cole is today. Due the the efforts of many people - but mostly The Open Table Crew, Steve Lindsay and Ingrid, Richard is seven months off the streets of Nashville and at home in NY State. Richard misses his friends in Nashville and likely will come back to visit, but he has traveled an amazing journey from a camp on the Cumberland river - Through detox and rehab - and back with his family. Life is not easy though, Richard is experiencing the challenges of every day life we all face. Finances - personalities - teenage girls - family… He is toughing through it - still going to meetings - staying sober and walking the walk. Lets all keep Richard in our prayers as he continues to adjust. and Thank you all for supporting our cause to help the homeless with their immediate needs and leading them to agencies that can help with their long term needs. JR Davis Founder The Project Nashville A Man who speaks around the world - traveled with Zig Ziglar - proudly carried his bags and continues to give the positive life messages Zig was know for - Krish accepted our invitation to speak to the men of Men of Valor inmates at CCA and met the men where they were, challenging them to move forward to where they can be. Krish has a story that brings him to America with only a few dollars in his pocket to become Zig Ziglar's top protege. Speaking to inmates is a passion of his and impressive as he brings a message that any corporation would pay big money for… He arranged his schedule to come in a day early to talk to them men in prison and Blew Them Away. Check him out at www.krishdhanam.com and bring him to your town. You will be encouraged, blessed and challenged. Gibson Cage and his band will be performing a free concert just for the homeless of Nashville. Cage, once lived under a bridge and wants to entertain and encourage the men and women on the streets with a concert April 18 from 2-4pm.
The concert will be under the Jefferson Street Bridge. Charlie Daniels ,The Allmän Brothers and Marshall Tucker have nothing on the sounds of CAGE FOX TAYLOR. Their progressive southern rock brings every crowd to a boiling point of pure musical enjoyment. Homeless agencies that work on the streets will be represented. We are still in need of food to hand out. Should you have any resources to help we would greatly appreciate it. As Lawrence Welk and Paster Tom Gholson say "Tankya Tankya Tankya" for the overwhelming response to a new mother's needs.
Open Table Nashville, one of our partners, and its crew are on the streets while most of us are watching Dancing with the Stars or Star Search… or in my case The Americans and American Crime… This group is relentless when it comes to taking action when a person is in need. In this case, a new mother had a baby… unexpectedly… I know, hard to believe - but believe me… it was a surprise… She walked to the hospital with a pain in her stomach… a few hours later a baby appeared. Open Table surrounded her with help and loving support. And the volunteers of The Project Nashville along with the members of Brook Hollow Baptist Church contributed with diapers - gift cards - formula - and cash… Thank you for responding generously to the practical needs of this mother. This is what Community is all about. This is what people helping people is about! Tankya Tankya Tankya!!! Last week we reported that a man named Daniel was rescued from the streets of Nashville.
He was scared and alone after spending time in the hospital and then dropped off on the streets of our city. As you recall, we were able to take him to Room in the Inn for temp housing for that cold night. Up-date on Daniel: Room in the Inn staff have taken him under their care and have him in a program that has stabilized his anxiety. He is in a good place in his life right now. RITI will work with him and help him get into permanent housing. Thank you People Loving Nashville - Room in the Inn - TPN volunteers for helping make this happen. Daniel was alone and depressed as he walked along the busy Nashville street.
He was determined that today the pain would end. He looked at the on coming traffic and made his move stepping in front of a late model car. To his amazement the driver swerved and missed hitting him screeching to a stop. The driver, a middle age driver, jumped out of the car and rushed to Daniel asking if he was OK. Daniel said, "Why did you miss me - I was trying to kill myself." The driver called the police and Daniel spent the next three weeks in a mental hospital. This past Monday at about 3:45 PM a white 15 passenger stopped on the edge of downtown Nashville and let out two men. One of the men was a timid and scared Daniel. Someone on the streets told Daniel about the The group, People Loving Nashville who feed up to 300+ homeless - delivering great food and warm clothing and loving volunteers. This cold Monday night was no different. Daniel made his way to the foot of the Tennessee State Capital where he was able to get a plate of food and drink. Daniel sat alone while he quietly ate his meal. Ryan Lampa coordinator of the feeding sat now and started to talk to him. He heard his story. Daniel was dumped on the streets and scared to death to face the cold night alone. His plan was to find a corner in an alley and hide until morning. Ryan got me and one of our volunteers and asked us to help Daniel. He brought us up to speed on his story and we took Daniel into our care. My first call was to Father Charles Strobel a longtime friend and TPN partner. Father Strobel founded the Room in the Inn where Homelessness changes into Hopefulness. Father Strobel agreed to take Daniel into his program and we were able to find him a safe place for the next few days. Upon last report Daniel has entered one of the RITI programs and will be safe for the time being. So… Whats the moral of this story… Thats easy. It takes people helping people… to help people. Ryan with People Helping Nashville got The Project Nashville involved who got Room in the Inn involved. and a man in need was taken off the cold streets of Nashville. Thank all of you who support what we do. Daniel is why we do what we do. JR They got married at the place where they met… Under the Jefferson street bridge. I have know James and Marti for over a year… They were on the streets - in a couple of homeless camps we work with… Trying best they could to get out of the dirt. It has been a struggle… but they have made it. On Valentines day 2015 they got married. Joined by friends and homeless workers. The wedding was beautiful. Over a hundred people came on on this cold day. The catering was better than most weddings I have attended - The volunteer videographers and still photographers captured the event … The service was beautiful. James and his new bride are off the streets and soon to move into their permanent housing. Much thanks to Steve and Lisa of Open Table Nashville who have helped this couple for a long time. We need more like Steve and Lisa to help people like James and Marti who want out of chains of homelessness. Would you join us and support the efforts of The Project Nashville by praying - volunteering and helping us supply the immediate needs of the people on the streets of Nashville? |
