Last week we reported that a man named Daniel was rescued from the streets of Nashville.
He was scared and alone after spending time in the hospital and then dropped off on the streets of our city. As you recall, we were able to take him to Room in the Inn for temp housing for that cold night. Up-date on Daniel: Room in the Inn staff have taken him under their care and have him in a program that has stabilized his anxiety. He is in a good place in his life right now. RITI will work with him and help him get into permanent housing. Thank you People Loving Nashville - Room in the Inn - TPN volunteers for helping make this happen.

Daniel was alone and depressed as he walked along the busy Nashville street.
He was determined that today the pain would end. He looked at the on coming traffic and made his move stepping in front of a late model car. To his amazement the driver swerved and missed hitting him screeching to a stop. The driver, a middle age driver, jumped out of the car and rushed to Daniel asking if he was OK. Daniel said, "Why did you miss me - I was trying to kill myself." The driver called the police and Daniel spent the next three weeks in a mental hospital. This past Monday at about 3:45 PM a white 15 passenger stopped on the edge of downtown Nashville and let out two men. One of the men was a timid and scared Daniel. Someone on the streets told Daniel about the The group, People Loving Nashville who feed up to 300+ homeless - delivering great food and warm clothing and loving volunteers. This cold Monday night was no different. Daniel made his way to the foot of the Tennessee State Capital where he was able to get a plate of food and drink. Daniel sat alone while he quietly ate his meal. Ryan Lampa coordinator of the feeding sat now and started to talk to him. He heard his story. Daniel was dumped on the streets and scared to death to face the cold night alone. His plan was to find a corner in an alley and hide until morning. Ryan got me and one of our volunteers and asked us to help Daniel. He brought us up to speed on his story and we took Daniel into our care. My first call was to Father Charles Strobel a longtime friend and TPN partner. Father Strobel founded the Room in the Inn where Homelessness changes into Hopefulness. Father Strobel agreed to take Daniel into his program and we were able to find him a safe place for the next few days. Upon last report Daniel has entered one of the RITI programs and will be safe for the time being. So… Whats the moral of this story… Thats easy. It takes people helping people… to help people.
